Constitution for Downhill Ski and Snowboard Club

          Article 1: Name and Affiliations

            The name of the organization shall be the Downhill Ski and Snowboard Club.

 

            Article 2: Objectives and Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide students with exciting fun filled trips to different ski resorts along the east coast and to hone their skills. The members will be able to make new friends and keep close connections with their old friends. This club is a great way for students to get out and experience an amazing time on the frosted hills of the resorts. Also, our goal is to provide affordable skiing opportunities.

 

Article 3: Membership

Anyone that is a SRU student can join this club. There is no requirement for joining this club. No specific major, GPA, or class requirement. Reflection the policies set forth by the Slippery Rock University Student Handbook, the SRU Ski Club shall not discriminate membership on the basis of age, sex, marital status, race, handicaps, height, national origin, religion, veteran status, or weight. Each active member will receive a certificate of membership.

 

Article 4: Officers

 

Section 1: President- Elected Officer- The President reserves the right to appoint committee chairpersons and to present all motions to the general membership body at club meetings as well as break ties in situations that require. The President will act as the tie-breaker in votes that require. The President has the right to delegate any of the tasks listed to another willing Executive board member.

 

Vice President- Elected Officer- The Vice President will preside at meetings and functions at which the President cannot attend. The Vice President will assist the President in all duties and task. The Vice President will also act as an official representative. The Vice President has the right to delegate any of the tasks listed to another willing Executive board member.

 

Treasurer- Elected Officer- The Treasurer shall manage the collection of SRU Ski Club payment fees, the drafting of the budgets, club financial accounts as provided by the office of Student Activities, fundraising, sponsorship, and all other financial aspects of the club.  All issues must be approved by the President.

 

Secretary- Elected Officer- The Secretary will handle all club information, including current team rosters, current contact sheets, and meeting minutes. The secretary will also manage all outward public relations, including promoting and attracting new members and interacting with leagues and other organizations. The secretary will also be responsible for all duties handed by the President, including all informational memos.

 

Public Relations- Appointed by President- The Public Relations officer will promote, and oversee all public relations promotions of the SRU Ski Club, and means by which to attract new members. The appointed officer will chair the Public Relations committee.

 

Section 2: President: Preside over all meetings, set agendas for meetings, appoint committees, vote in meetings to break ties, serve as organization’s official representative, organizes events.

Section 3: Vice President: Assume the duties of the President in his absence and assist in organizing events.

Section 4: Secretary: Take minutes of the meetings, maintain current attendance records, maintain a schedule of events, be the official record keeper for the organization.

Section 5: Treasurer: Be responsible for recording/ monitoring all organizational funds, present a financial report at each meeting, work with the faculty advisor in all bookkeeping issues.

Section 6: Public Relations: To promote and oversee all PR related aspects. The PR officer will conduct meetings to develop ideas to increase membership.

 

Section 7: Officers can be replaced with a 2/3 vote of all active members. Elections for Executive positions will be conducted every 2 years by casting vote. Unless a vacancy permits, then the President will make an “Open Position” announcement public to which the candidate will be voted on by 2/3 vote of all active members.

 

Article 5: Committees

Section 1: Fund- raising committee.

Section 2: The duties of the fund- raising committee include developing ways or opportunities to raise money and present them to the officers. Chairs consist of any member willing to volunteer.

Section 3: The Public Relations committee

Section 4: The PR committee will assist the Public Relations Executive in all duties given. Committee will consist of any member willing to volunteer. The committee chair will be the Public Relations Executive.

 

Article 6: Faculty Advisor

Section 1: Advisor must be full time faculty or staff member at Slippery Rock University. The advisor oversees financial transactions and signs required paperwork.

Article 7: Amendments

Section 1: This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of active members.

Article 8: Ratification

Section 1: This constitution may be self- ratified.
